I have been meaning to do this post for a month now!
After the bushes were eliminated, we had four pine trees cut down. I disliked having to take them out, but it really was impossible to have optimal sun for the planters without doing so. (Less pinecones to pick up, anyway ;)

Then the planters were built...(blood, sweat, and tears - 6 x 6 x 16 timbers are H-E-A-V-Y)
Dirt hauled in...
...and finally planting!Now all the vegetables are doing quite nicely, more pictures coming soon.
